ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN III

PROJECT 1

EXPERIENCING SPACE - SPATIAL TRANSLATION

In this project, we need to form a group of 3 to 4, where there's two parts on this project. Firstly, we have to do case studies on spatial poetics in architecture of 2 modifying elements and the second part is to apply the two modifying elements to create spatial translation with the given narrative. My group and I decided on the modifying elements which are texture and light. For these, we researched on Ningbo Museum of History and Yale University Art Gallery to have a better understanding of the 2 modifying elements.

Through our interpretation of the narrative, we came up with Between The Realms, where the user came from their memory to accept what the reality bring them to.

PROJECT 2A

EXPERIENCING SPACE - 'GENIUS LOCI'- SITE ANALYSIS & CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

In project 2a, we were required to analyse Machap Baru both the macro site and microsite, which is the Ruin site and Reservoir site as a whole tutorial group. Then individually, we had to formed our idea and concocept before the final to ensure our direction was proper and correct. Througout this project, there are workshops to guide us to create our designs.

PROJECT 2B

EXPERIENCING SPACE - MEMORY REPOSITORY

In this project we had todevelope from 2a, where we were required design a memory repository to provide a physical point of reference with visual significance that keeps alive the site's culture, history, memory, essence, provides accommodation to house and displays relevant material and interpretive material for the public access and information.

My proposal - titled "Unity In Disorder" to inteprete the significance of Machap Baru into my design through Unity, showing the close relationships between the people,  Sense of connection and the Building Heights.

REFLECTION

It was difficult at first during this module, as it was the first time we expose to digital, but at the end I managed to cope with it. Not only that, I have learnt a lot such as the modifying elements, poetics, genuis loci. Moreover, I had a better understanding of the design response to its site as well as the structure and tectonics.
