PROJECT 1
FAMOUS ARCHITECT'S BUILDING: APPLICATIONOF ARCHITECTURAL & STRUCTURAL MATERIALS
In this project, we need to pick a famous architect's building , identify and analyze 2 structural materials and 5 architectural materials and compile them into 2 A3 presentation boards along with architect's background and the introduction of the building.
For my architect and building I chose Richard Rogers and his work, Terminal 4, Barajas T4 Airport, where he uses passive strategies such as utilizing numerous skylights to allow natural lights into the structure and utilizing low-E glass for its excellent insulation property. Through this assignment, I learnt more about the structural and architectural materials of their properties and how they can affect a building design.
PROJECT 2
CONSTRUCTION DETAILING OF BUILDING ELEMENTS
For the second and final project, we need to to choose a house in Malaysia and acquiring their orthographic drawings. Then we were given either timber or concrete to change the building into. For my group we were given timber. In order to complete this project, we need to redraw the orthographic drawings base on the timber construction, the details and the sketches of construction process.
Throughout this assignment, I learnt more about how the technology is being utilizes during the foundation and preconstruction process. Other than that, it was exiting to learn more about the timber construction other than concrete.
