THEORIES OF ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN IV
PROJECT 1
PREMILINARY STUDIES
This assignment focuses on exploring the city's fundamental concepts and learning from world precedents. The purpose of this assignment is to first expose students to the fundamentals of urban design and its relationship to architecture. Second, it will investigate and determine the programmatic function, societal role, spatial layout, and architectural responses for urban blocks of a Community Centre. The Preliminary Studies are divided into three parts: site documentation, site analysis, and precedent studies of urban blocks and community centres (for Creative City). The Site Documentation and Site Analysis courses will provide students with a solid understanding of the site with which they will be working this semester. Simultaneously, the Precedent Studies will provide insight into architectural responses for designing a Community Centre for Creative City [CCCC] on an urban block. The Preliminary Studies will result in the production of site documentation materials a thorough analysis of the site toward a sense of place, and a detailed case study of a relevant urban block and precedents.
PROJECT 2
CREATIVE COMMUNITY CENTRE
This assignment focuses on the needs of the community where it should be addressed by design by exploring various possibilities of relevant sub-questions that align with our interests and findings from Project 1a. From that, we will focus on designing a Creative City Community Centre within an urban block corner site in KL City Centre. The building's design is comprised of appropriate architectural responses to aspects of the urban street context and user behavioural patterns identified and analysed in the Preliminary Studies. The final project is divided into two distinct stages:
a) architectural strategy
b) design development and detailing.
